WETSTERN GOD

The always controversial work of Lachapelle now focuses in a modern approach of religiosity. Taking an icon like MJ who dared to sacrifice his own color skin to send a certain message to the world. Maybe crazy, mayby eccentric, but certainly BIG and timeless as a message.

But this isn't the first time we see this approach on religiosity. Vanessa Becroft shows a less naive and more ironic approach to it. A virgin is feeding to black babies reflecting the
paternalism of the western culture over the african people. Again the combination of black and white skin color throws out the message that beyond skin colors there's God.

In a way MJ had also the idea of sending a bigger than life message when he changed his color skin too.

LIFE AFTER YOUTUBE

YOUTUBE celebrates its fifth Aniversary.
Chad Hurley, Steve Chen and Jawed Karim didn't imagine what that project they were developing in 2005 would become in just one year. Didn't had a clue that Google was a year away of offering them 1.6 Billion Dollars for their company.
Probably the most powerful tool for sharing content of all times has made TV look like a
toy and regular people look like TV stars.
But what s really interesting about all this is that whenever you want to find out what's the kind of content people want to see and what's the kind of entertainment spectators are demanding right now, you just have to have a look at the number of viewers. No games, no faking, no advertising. This is the real thing. Only five years after, welcome to the youtube era.

LOGOS + DESIGN = OUR INVIRONMENT

http://vimeo.com/10149605

This short was presented at the Cannes Film Festival 2009. and won a 2010 academy award under the category of animated short so the French animation collective H5, François Alaux, Hervé de Crécy + Ludovic Houplain, must be really happy.

I reminded me the documentary Objectified from the same directors that did Helvetica.

In a way these logos, just like the design objects with which we live everyday are commonly assumed as part of our landscape and we kind of forget how they transform our way of living.

These two documentaries put in perspective the nature of the world we live in. Far from the nature we can find in the country side, it is an environment/nature created by us that affects us without even noticing it. I love the fact that most of us don't even care about it but behave and live our lives according to their "mandate".

SAM O'HARE MINI DAY IN NEW YORK CITY

How photographic technics can change your perception on the reality around you.

High speed and selective out of focus really makes it impossible to differenciate between reality and miniature.

FriendsWithYou paired up with US Sydney to produce the latest animated spot for Match.com. It's a magical little world where all things that are supposed to be together are. From strawberries and cream, to a fork and knife, to a rabbit and a hat... It's just cute to watch these duos make their love connection all over town. :)

AMERICAN APPAREL...NOW WE'RE TALKING

It might look like the cover of a Brazilian magazine in the 80´s but it´s the new online campaign for American Apparel, really innovative if we take in consideration they´re not just using their models atributes to show their products in an appealing way but asking you to vote for the best rear in the whole planet. The lucky boom will be the main icon of their next campaign. Well, if the best online campaigns are the ones capable of engaging people, well, who doesn´t like to give their opinion about a good rear, specially when you´re partner isn´t watching.
Hey one more thing, not only boys can vote, what a unisex concept... love it.

PSYOP - FRESH FOOD FOR ANIMATION PREDATORS

http://www.psyop.tv/

Before the Happiness Factory campaign for Coca Cola this animation studio already was one of the largest and more innivatives in the wolrd scene. The variety of the clients and artists they work with tells us about their range of styles and resources.
Check them out, I personally love their work for Converse.
I wonder what Mr. Michel Gondry thinks about it.

Bowling Blind

No it´s not another Big Lebowsky festival with people bowling high on white
russian.(which could be fun too)
This is the documentary of an extremely talented guy, Marc Cantone, who
happens to be the lead singer and song writer of the band where I have the
great luck to play drums with. I strongly recommend watching it.
The premise is just completely unexpected. Very promising.

I´M THE NEW BLACK - BACK TAPE IS NEW AGAIN

Now this is cool. Finally someone found a way to play with these old tapes.
I saw years ago an exhibit of a guy that painted the actual cassettes and he really did an amazing job but this really takes it to the next level.
Glad the artist decided to turn black and not the other way around!

Sherlock Holmes credit sequence

:PHUNK STUDIO : 4X4 DEDIGNERS FROM SINGAPORE

Near 15 years after this 4 people studio started, the diversity of their work
is absolutely impressive. Book covers, Electric guitars, Entertainment Parks, Skateboards... these guys have no fear, quite the opposite, they seam to find an opportunity in every new format to practice their own style. A style that flows really well taking in consideration it is a mix of Manga Aesthetics, crazy creatures and western icons from comic books.
They exchange their roles in every project. Like a band in which every member plays different instruments. Actually they met in college and tried to start a Rock band but found out (to our great luck) they sucked at it. As you can see that was a great decision.
